The Church of the Visitation, erected on the crêt the Moor, which is the first foothills of the Semnoz appears as dominant Annecy and mark all places, for miles around. It is the symbol of the prestigious religious past of the city.
Built from 1909 to 1930 in terms of the Rome Prize Grenoble architect Alfred-Henri appeal, it was consecrated in 1949 by Cardinal Tedeschini. It adjoins the monastery headquarters of the Order of the Visitation, founded in 1610 by Francis de Sales and Jane de Chantal.
The bodies of two saints based funeral at the top of the two side aisles, two sarcophagi in gilded bronze. The basilica was built in the typical style of the late nineteenth century. The bell tower has a height of 72 meters and is topped by a bronze cross of 7 meters. The nave is based on a crypt with flattened arches, designed by Henry Ade. The vault was built semicircular. The windows of the church depict the life of the two holy founders. It has a carillon of 38 bells weighing 8 tons. The drone is classified as historical monuments.
Two Christs cross surmounting two altars are the work of sculptor Philippe Besnard.
On June 20, 2007, were transferred to a vault of the crypt, the remains of two missionaries, the father Mermier Pierre-Marie, who died in 1862, founder of the Congregation of St. Francis de Sales and of Bishop Pierre Joseph Rey. Previously they were based in the company of some thirty other missionaries, in a crypt located on land, next to the basilica, that the Congregation recently sold to a developer. The other bodies were transferred to the vault of the Missionaries of Loverchy Cemetery.
