Chauvet Cave or Chauvet-Pont d'Arc is a Palaeolithic painted cave. The site includes numerous representations of animals (paintings, prints). Many carbon-14 dating results were close to 31 000 years BP. The works of the Chauvet Cave date back so the Aurignacian as the archaeologist Jean Clottes and be among the oldest in the world. The diversity and mastery of the techniques they have reflected deeply questioned the idea of a prehistoric art moving very slowly.
