The lake was formed from a depression glacial 12,000 years ago.
It is partially covered with a bog. The word means Bourdouze muddy. Onesimus Reclus, in his account of traveling in France states that "... the lake of Bourdouze no longer a lake ... but a boggy pond. " Its surface has evolved over time and declined. Lake bog Bourdouze represents the first stage of colonization of the waters there on the banks of lake colonization by hydrophytes plants. Among the plants that can be observed in the bog adjacent to the lake itself, we see little in the August ligulaire Siberia (Ligularia sibirica).
You can fish for pike, perch and bream.
