Lake Pierre Percee is the largest artificial lake of 304 ha with Lorraine and 32 km in circumference. It is located southeast of the department of Meurthe-et-Moselle, west of the town of Pierre Percee.
This low mountain lake has the charm of the great Canadian lakes by its unusual shape and wooded terrain of pines and hardwoods.
The large dam was built between 1981 and 1985 at a place called the Old Pre and commissioned in 1993. Its watershed clean is insufficient, it is fed by pumping. The lake water is discharged into the plain and in the Meurthe when the flow of the Moselle is too low to compensate for the water taking for the purposes of the Central Cattenom and guarantee a minimum flow of the Moselle Luxembourg during low flow periods. To complete the device and as a reserve at the lake, a large pool was built below: Lake of the Plain, fed by the river of the same name.
Top 78 meters, the dam is partly composed of trap rock the hardest in Europe, which does not freeze and is not permeable. The heart of the dam is in turn composed of clay and sandstone. The width is 355 meters at the base and 8 feet at the peak, 330 meters long. The maximum volume of water is estimated at 61.6 million m³.
The flooded area is composed of several valleys, giving the lake the form of a maple leaf. Leisure activities are divided by sector: fishing, canoeing, bird watching, zip line, bungee jumping, paintball ... but swimming is strictly prohibited.
