Largest natural lake of glacial origin in France, north of the department of Savoie, Lake Bourget is one of the post-glacial lakes in the Alps. It was formed after the last Würm glaciation, there are about 19 000 years by the withdrawal of the great glaciers of the Quaternary.
Of great natural wealth, a major ecological interest, it is also a major tourist destination since the nineteenth century.
