Black Lake is a lake elevation of the Vosges Mountains. It is located on the bank of the municipality of Orbey in Alsace.
A hydroelectric plant was built there between 1928 and 1933 by René Koechlin. This is the first station energy transfer pumping / turbine (STEP). Black Lake is connected to the White Lake (120 m above) through a conduit that allows the generation of electricity by turbines at peak alternating with charging the White Lake, higher off-peak pumping. It produces an output of 80 MW.
