In 1919, after the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, George Clemenceau decided, at age 78, to retire to his estate vendee. Between the ocean and the fisherman's house he rents, the "Father of Victory", a great friend of Claude Monet, makes the challenge of creating a garden on the dune. The house remained in the condition it was in his death in 1929, with his furniture and souvenirs.
