Small volcanic, Mount Gerbier de Jonc culminates at an altitude of 1551 m. This is a phonolitic protrusion, dated 8 million years, a time when many were still active volcanoes in Auvergne.
Mount Gerbier-de-Rush is famous for its particular shape and its extraordinary natural beauty and wildlife, but also because it receives at its base the three sources of the Loire, the longest river in France.
Listed site since 1933, it is in order of importance the second tourist site of the department of Ardèche, after the gorges of Ardeche.
