Installed in the castle rebuilt by General Haxo, also known as Barracks, the Museum of Art and History of Belfort is committed to present you with collections dating from the Neolithic to the oldest and Gallo-Roman and Merovingian for most of them. Let us first in the history of the city. From Gallo-Roman and Merovingian, you find pottery, weapons, tools, belt buckles, brooches, reconstitution of a grave ... The more recent history is also discussed with the reproduction of the relief map of the fortifications of the city by Vauban in 1687, many military memorabilia from the War of 1870, including objects that belonged to Colonel Denfert-Rochereau and other soldiers or officers in French and Prussian. The Belfort of the Second World War is also mentioned with testimonies, stories, uniforms ... Another room is devoted to regional history illustrated with caps, hats, shawls, religious items, old toys ... the other side of the courtyard, in Haxo casemates, you are presented collections of contemporary art in the form of paintings (Gustave Doré ...), sculptures (Rodin ...) and photographs (Villers).
