Refurbished in 1999, the Museum of Fine Arts currently has three levels of exposure. The ground floor houses temporary exhibitions devoted to the art of the years 1950-1980 based on the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art, on the theme Art and Society and the history of Dunkirk. The first floor offers a journey to discover the prinicpales European schools from the 16th to the 20th century, Flanders, France, Holland and Italy. Paintings and sculptures by masters such as Franz Pourbus, Abraham Janssens, Hyacinthe Rigaud, Hubert Robert, Antoine-Louis Barye or Eugène Boudin alongside pieces of pottery and jewelry. In the basement, a natural history gallery brings together a collection of butterflies, birds, insects and minerals.
