The rink is located Avenue South Pole of Grenoble and Innsbruck to host matches of the team of ice hockey Burners wolves. It was inaugurated in October 2001 and took over the rink Clemenceau. Cost, fully supported by the Metro, was estimated at 13 million euros.

Two ice surfaces are available:
• The sports hall (30 mx 60 m) competition (ice hockey, figure skating, short track).
• The recreation hall (26 mx 56 m) to the public.
The capacity of spectators is 3496 seats (largest skating rink in the capacity of the Ligue Magnus) in the sports hall.

The building has hosted the world championships in ice hockey in April 2001 and Candel'Euro Tour beginning in October 2001.

South Pole is:
• Two sheets of ice covering an area of over 3200 m² (recreational and sports arena) and a capacity of 2,100 skaters.
• Two million users and viewers since it opened.
• A remarkable sporting equipment to accommodate major events such as skating shows (Holiday on Ice, Stars on Ice Gala ...), various official competitions, sessions karts on ice hockey games ...
• The events throughout the year during the afternoon or the evening with unique sets of lights, 2 megawatts of sounds and a giant screen (broadcasts of sporting events, movies, concerts).
