Place Saint-Pierre de Caen is a square in the center of Caen. It includes the Church of St. Peter. It is the historic heart of the city of Caen and one of the main nodes of the transport system (tram, bus ...).
The St. Peter's Square has long been the real heart of the city of Caen. This is one of the oldest parishes of Caen, a church was built from the seventh century and was known as Saint-Pierre-de-Darnetal. The village developed near the confluence of the small and the large Odon Odon, as well as an arm of the Orne, Noah. Around 1060, William the Conqueror built the first elements of a great fortress on the rocky outcrop overlooking the marshy valley flowing with the Orne River and its tributaries. At the foot of the castle, the central core of Caen, Bourg-le-Duc or Bourg-le-Roi, grew around the ancient village of Darnetal.
